DENTAL BONDING AND COSMETICS

Dental Bonding uses adhesive dentistry of composite resin or similar dental materials to “bond” to the natural tooth structure to get the desired esthetic result. Dental bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin to shape, add, or contour natural teeth to give a more cosmetic appearance.

Dental bonding is generally used when the chipped, spaced, or stained teeth can conservatively be fixed with hand sculpted composite resin. If the teeth need more than bonding can fix, we look to dental veneers or crowns.

Cosmetic Contouring is when our dentists remove a small amount of enamel and reshape your teeth. Most commonly cosmetic contouring evens the length of teeth, smooth out chipped teeth, round off corners, and smooth down mamelons (the “bumps” that create the serrated edge of an incisor which allows it to erupt through the gums).

Often there is a mixture of dental bonding and cosmetic contouring during an appointment to get the result you are trying to achieve.
